The Skate Smart and Board Smart Coaching Programmes are suitable for any community venue such as Schools & Sports Centres, and are recognised and sanctioned by the BRSF (British Roller Sports Federation).

The BRSF Basic Skills Schemes Skate Smart and Board Smart has been designed by British Roller Sports Federation (BRSF) as a resource to support the coaching of beginners in inline or quad skating and skateboarding.

The Skate and Board Smart programme can be delivered by any qualified BRSF level 2 coach in any community venue such as local authority leisure centre or school. Young people participating in the programme receive a BRSF Basic Skills Grade Book from which skills can be assessed by the BRSF level 2 Coach and a certificate for completing the programme is issued.

Providers can be assured of quality coaching assessed to BRSF standards and that the basic safety requirements of skate maintenance and essential skills such as turning and stopping effectively are mastered.

The Level 2 programme integrates the sports coach UK Coaching Essentials Workshops which provide coaches with information and tips on how to make their coaching good, safe and effective. In each Coaching Essentials workshop you will receive a complimentary resource. The workshop and the resource will complement the technical information and coaching experience provided by the British Roller Sports Federation. Sports Coach UK are proud to work in partnership with the British Roller Sports Federation in helping develop great coaches

Participants who have completed the programme will have acquired the Basic Skills they require to safely access Roller sports or a Skate Park environment.

BRSF are now in the process of CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checking and registering all affiliated coaches, officials and other adults within the sport. BRSF advises that anyone currently employing Skate Smart coaches should carry out CRB checks to ensure they have the most current information possible whilst this registration is established. This site will be updated when the registration process is completed.

Southport YMCA now has a team of qualified level 2 skateboard coaches that can teach the basics of safe skateboarding in schools and community venues around Southport. The Board Smart programme, which has been adopted by British Roller Sports Federation was created by the young people of Southport YMCA Bridge Project and will be rolled out nationally in schools.
